a "MOST ADDICTING" Video Game Built Inside Rhino
RHINO IS NOT A GAME ENGINE
So We Built a Game in It Anyway.
ARENA ULTRA is a real-time action game running entirely inside Rhino + Grasshopper.
No Unity.
No Unreal.
No sprites, shaders, or game engine shortcuts.
Just geometry, math, and a system pushed far past what it was designed to do.
WHAT IT IS
A fast-paced, mouse-driven arena shooter where:
- You fight waves of enemies and boss encounters
- Dodge projectile patterns and charge piercing shots
- Collect power-ups that radically change play style
- Survive as long as your reflexes (and Rhino’s redraw loop) allow
Everything you see is live Rhino geometry.
Every frame is recomputed.
Every mistake is yours.
WHY WE BUILT IT
Because tools don’t define creativity—intent does.
ARENA ULTRA started as an experiment:
What happens when you treat a computational design tool like a game engine?
The answer:
- Stateful simulations inside Grasshopper
- Real-time interaction without event systems
- Game loops built on parametric recomputation
- UI drawn with curves, not pixels
This isn’t a gimmick.
It’s R&D.
It’s proof that systems thinking travels across disciplines.
WHAT IT REPRESENTS
ARENA ULTRA is a Wickerson Studios artifact:
- A demonstration of advanced computational logic
- A showcase of non-standard tool use
- A reminder that constraints are invitations, not limits
If you can build a game in Grasshopper,
you can build anything with it.
PLAY IT. BREAK IT. STUDY IT.
ARENA ULTRA runs live inside Rhino.
It’s unstable by nature.
That’s part of the point.
Wickerson Studios
We don’t ask what tools are for.
We ask what else they could be.
